The Problem:
Weir Minerals needed a reliable, dust-proof power solution for their operations at Wedgefield Mine, where extreme dust levels posed a serious risk to critical equipment. Without proper protection, dust accumulation could lead to overheating, component failure, and costly downtime. The power system also required redundant backup to ensure uninterrupted operations in a harsh mining environment where equipment failures could disrupt productivity.
The challenge was to deliver a robust, enclosed power solution that could:
- Prevent dust ingress.
- Maintain optimal internal temperature.
- Provide redundant power backup.
Our Solution:
PSS designed and delivered a custom-built IP66 rack with advanced dust protection and integrated power backup, specifically engineered for Wedgefield Mine’s requirements. Its features included:
- 38RU enclosure with 1000mm depth, providing ample space for essential equipment.
- 800W air conditioning system, regulating internal temperatures in high-dust environments.
- Two EN2000 (2kVA) UPS systems, installed redundantly to ensure continuous power supply even in case of a failure.
The Result:
This custom-designed IP66 rack provided complete protection against dust ingress while providing backup power for the computers housed within the rack. Integrating the redundant UPS systems and temperature control allowed the system to tolerate conditions of the mine.
