Rio Tinto needed a stable power backup solution for their paralytical scanner at Gove Mine. The scanner played a crucial role in analysing iron ore samples and providing the data required for efficient mining operations. A power failure could disrupt ore assessment, delay production, and affect decision-making processes.

The challenge was to ensure continuous operation of this equipment in a demanding mining environment, where power fluctuations and outages could compromise accuracy. The solution had to provide consistent power protection while being robust enough for long-term use in remote conditions.

To meet the client’s requirements, PSS installed an M20 UPS in 2017, ensuring uninterrupted power for the paralytical scanner. This system was designed to handle power fluctuations and outages, safeguarding the accuracy and efficiency of ore analysis. The installation process allowed operations to continue without disruption.

The UPS provided long-term reliability, operating without failure for 6+ years. Its consistent performance and durability in the harsh mining environment demonstrated its effectiveness, leading Rio Tinto to expand its infrastructure by installing a second M20 UPS in 2024.
